Happiness!

August 30, 2008

Being hesitant of this school at first, my mind has completely changed!

Last night the girls in my hall all planned our freshman follies routine, and I have never laughed so hard. We are giving an “iphone tutorial”, acting out different music videos and movies that you can watch! It will be pretty amusing.

Tonight all of us went to the mall and realized that we made a huge mistake. The stores here are pretty different from the stores I am used to in Plano. We walked for about 10 minutes and realized we had hit the end of the mall. But after all, we had fun. We went to the World Famous Bean for dinner and enjoyed some delicious lasagna. We then ventured to ice cream stand and got us some coffee ice cream that was heaven.

I am now watching ‘What Happens In Vegas’ with my lovely friend Kristen, and we are about to go church surfing at the RA rooms! I am definately having an amazing time, thanks to everyone who has been praying for me!

The first football game is in a couple weeks, which I am extremely excited about. I definately caught myself doing the Wildcat sign in a picture today, which made me feel like a real college student!

GO WILDCATS!

Genesis 1

August 27, 2008

Today is my Astronomy class we talked about the age of the universe. I am so used to being taught the Big Bang theory in science class, that I figured the Bible would not even be mentioned. To my surprise, we studied Genesis 1 the entire class. We talked about whether or not God created the world in seven literal days, or if each day was actually a long period of time.

Our professor explained that when the BIble was written, ‘day’ had three different meanings:
        – 12 Hours   (Genesis 1:5)
        - 24 Hours   (Genesis 1:8)
        – An Era       (Genesis 1:11-12)

He ended up giving us textual evidence in Genesis that explains each different theory. He put it on us to decide which Bible verse we thought explained the meaning of a day. Seven literal days, in my opinion! It was so interesting to see how science and the Bible have so many differences, but can all come together to make perfect sense.

My roommate and I definately just sang the whole entire song that was playing on Hannah Montana…I’m pretty sure we are the only people here that can do that!

Classes

August 26, 2008

Yesterday I had an amazing first day of classes. My professors were all so nice and you could tell they really cared about us as individuals. This is definately the type of classroom setting I wanted!

Today I had my first Bible class. The professor has more knowledge of the Word than anyone I have ever known. I am definately really excited to see where that goes.

I’ll write more later, but I need to make my way to Chapel now!

The Calling

August 24, 2008

Today has been strange.

I don’t think I have ever been so happy, sad, worried and amazed in one day. I can’t seem to get my emotions right. One minute I feel like God has a plan for me here, and I could not imagine being anywhere else…but the next minute I want to go home where I know people and can be myself. The church I went to this morning was amazing, but it still feels like something is missing. I feel like the friends I am making here are being forced, like everyone is the other persons last resort. Don’t get me wrong, I like them alot, I just feel like there is a huge elephant in the room every time we all hang out.

I know that right now the only thing I can rely on is God. Although the situation is strange, it has caused me to be constant with my quiet times and trust in Him in a completely different way. I have never had this sort of passion, and I know it is not by chance. While sitting in Chapel a couple of days ago, this verse was brought up that inspired me in a new way.

“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
                                                                     –Ephesians 4:1-2

I have a calling. Everyone has a calling. I don’t know what that calling is yet, but I know that everyday I am working to find it, and I am not here by chance. God does amazing things at ACU, and I know I can be apart of that. As much as I want to be home with the people I know and love, I feel that I would not be obeying the ever present voice in my head. I will make the best of my situation and be happy that I know I am being lead to something greater.

Amazing

August 22, 2008

Last night we did the candlelight devotional. I cannot explain what I felt while walking through the line of upper classmen and parents, all cheering you on as you enter into your new life. We sang hymns while walking to the ampitheater. Once we got there, we lit the candles, signifying the fire that God has put inside of us to be spread throughout ACU and the World. It was definately the coolest thing I have ever been apart of.

This morning we got up and did a sunrise devotional, which was pretty good considering the fact I wanted to sleep the whole time. The sunrise was absolutely amazing, while the speaker, a bible professor here, blew my mind!

I definately feel that I am starting to find my place here, and cannot wait until classes start!

Welcome Week

August 19, 2008

Today has been crazy. We started off by doing this huge assembly where the played the great Rocket Summer songs, and then we did some worship. I am not used to this kind of singing with no instruments, so it’s pretty interesting to watch the different ways people worship. After that we met with our mentor groups, which was the funniest thing ever. Our leaders are crazy and loud, and definately made us dance the soldier boy. We then went to the worlds largest game of twister, which was fun for ten minutes, and then I got tired of sticking my butt in peoples faces. It was pouring down rain when we got out, so we had to walk half a mile in water up to our ankles. Now we’re just waiting for dinner with our mentor groups, and then we have a candlelight devotional at 9 which is going to be pretty sweet! I basically just sit in my dorm room all day by myself though, so hopefully things will get better!

It is crazy here, people are already starting to date guys that they just met. Everyone seems to be in this desperate search to find their soulmate! We heard two guys talking at dinner about this girl that he “just met” and he knows he could marry her. I dont know, but that’s just not my style.

College!

August 17, 2008

Today I moved into my dorm, how weird is that? I said goodbye to all of my friends last night, which was extremely depressing. This morning we left around 8:00 and hit rain that seemed to never end. We finally got here and moved everything in. The room looks great! I will make sure to keep everyone updated on what I am doing here and how it is going!

What a Great Day!

August 14, 2008

Today was perfect. Everything seemed to fit together perfectly to create complete summer bliss.

Kelly, Rachel, Alexa and I took a a trip to Boston Market to eat some delicious lunch! Their macaroni just cannot be beat, although their mashed patotoes take a close second. We then went to Buffalo Exchange in Dallas, where I ended up paying $30 for a pair of Seven Jeans! After being yelled at by a gas station man, we frantically went to Urban Outfitters to gain back the happiness he took from us. It was magical. I love days like this, where it seems like I could be 18 forever and be nothing but happy.

After we got home from shopping, we went to the Rough Riders game. It was muggin hot out there! The game was pretty uneventful until the 8th inning, which ended with 3 runs being made. We ate all we could and danced our hearts out, which is never a bad thing in my book. I had so much fun with everyone at Grace, and was glad I had such a fun last event with them before I left.

Alexa just informed me that my favorite book, My Sister’s Keeper, will be made into a movie. This is really exciting, except for the fact that Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin will be in it. Don’t get me wrong, they are great actors, I just imagined a little more of an indie feel to the movie that focuses on the content, instead of who is playing the characters.

I love the Olympics!

August 11, 2008

The title of this blog says it all. I love the Olympics. As lame as that sounds, I get really excited when I see the different countries getting along for two weeks. Too bad the womens gymnastics kind of stunk, which made me turn into a nervous wreck. Hopefully they will pull it out in the next couple days and win the gold!

Today was my last Sunday at Grace, and a good Sunday it was! My preschool class was so well behaved, which was refreshing. The fusion service was definately amazing too! The worship was excellent, and Dan’s message really hit home.  It was all about loving others, which was weird since Josh and I had a two hour conversation about it the night before and referenced almost all of the Bible verses that were used. The sermon definately made me realize the importance of genuine love towards others. I think it’s so easy to get wrapped up in ourselves that we forget to truely care for other people around us.
