Slacker

October 17, 2008

I have done some major slacking on my blog. I have been so busy with studying and trying to catch up on sleep that I very rarely get on my computer.

This week has been exhausting. I am so sleep deprived; I feel like I could take a week long nap. I had a major astronomy test a couple days ago and did better than last time, but still not great. I also had a BIble test which I owned and on Monday I have a business test. I just want to sleeeeeeep!

Tomorrow we are going to the football game in Armarillo. It is the number 3 and 4 ranked teams in the nation (D2) so it should be a good game.

I am coming home Halloween, which I am super stoked about! The friday I come back will be devoted to lunch with Colleen and shopping until I drop!

Everything else is going pretty well. My family seems to be doing good and Josh is wonderful! I am excited about seeing them and eating some good food!

Busy Busy Busy

October 7, 2008

So we have a business project that we are doing, which is taking up all of my time; hence the lack of posts recently. We have to create a project and then sell it, all while making business plans and proposals to the Dean of the business school. I am pretty nervous because tomorrows presentation is kind of a big deal, but thank God I bought a pair of black slacks before summer so I have something nice to wear.

Other than that I am doing pretty well. Someone is coming here tonight to see if they want to take Wolverine Bojangles away from us. I hope they like the cat, because she needs a good home!

I have a pretty sweet outfit planned for Halloween, but I will keep it to myself until the time comes closer.

New Addition

September 29, 2008

My friends and I have a new addition to our family here in Abilene! It is a three week old cat, and her name is Wolverine.

Josh and Joe came to visit last weekend, which was so good! We went to the zoo with Callie and ate alot.

Sam Solomon

September 25, 2008

Sam Solomon is the fake name given to a man that spoke at Summit yesterday. He was raised in a strict Islam community, and learned to memorize scripture from the Kuran at age 5. He lived his whole life as a religious Islam who would do anything for his God. A few years back, “Sam” got a copy of the new testiment and read the whole thing straight through. He began to wrestle with the words that God was saying, but eventually came to believe them.

He told his father what he was feeling, and he ended up turning him into the authorities. He was held captive for 17 and a half weeks, until one night he was going to be executed. As he sat there talking to the leader of the group, he prayed that if God was real, he would save him. Right at that moment, the leader said he was tired and wanted to postpone the execution until the next week. “Sam” eventually escaped and is now living in a different country. We were not allowed to take any pictures or video of him to keep his identity private, because it is now considered a deed of Allah to kill him.

After going through all of this, the man sat on stage for twenty minutes talking to us about how beautiful Jesus is. I was amazed to hear someone who has experienced such great challenges to keep talking about how God saves us.

Summit

September 22, 2008

This week at ACU is something called Summit. Most of the classes are cancelled, and instead we can attend optional lectures lead by different people.

Today we went to see Brian McLaren speak. He stressed the importance of seeing what we can do for the “church”, then what the church can do for us. It was interesting.

Afterwards, we went to see Rob Thomas speak. He goes to Watermark Church in Dallas and runs a media company, Igniter. He talked about the importance of video and images to get the point of Jesus across. This definately caught my attention and even made me look at a possible major for college.

Today was definately a good day. Callie and I went and bought maragarita mix, because tonight is One Tree HIll so we are having VIRGIN margarita Monday!

Velvet Elvis

September 18, 2008

I have a new book that I am reading! It’s called Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. This is honestly one of the most inspirational books I have ever read. He challenges people to read what he has written, then debate it. He stresses the fact that so many Christians just take the facts that they are given and never question them. Everyone should read it.

I went to an amazing Bible study this morning at Jacobs Dream. I love when you can tell that the hearts of the people around you are pure. I am blessed to have The Call to go to on Wednesday nights/Thursday mornings to wake me up from my routine!

Next week is lectureship, which will be pretty sweet. All of our classes are cancelled so that we can go to different lectures and discussions whenever we want to. The are also having a tent devoted to 168 hours of straight prayer. I signed up for an hour on Thursday, so it will be pretty interesting to lead people in their time with God.

What a great day!

Birthday

September 8, 2008

So I went home this weekend, which was pretty sweet! When I got back on Sunday night, I was reminded what amazing friends I have here at ACU!

Happiness!

August 30, 2008

Being hesitant of this school at first, my mind has completely changed!

Last night the girls in my hall all planned our freshman follies routine, and I have never laughed so hard. We are giving an “iphone tutorial”, acting out different music videos and movies that you can watch! It will be pretty amusing.

Tonight all of us went to the mall and realized that we made a huge mistake. The stores here are pretty different from the stores I am used to in Plano. We walked for about 10 minutes and realized we had hit the end of the mall. But after all, we had fun. We went to the World Famous Bean for dinner and enjoyed some delicious lasagna. We then ventured to ice cream stand and got us some coffee ice cream that was heaven.

I am now watching ‘What Happens In Vegas’ with my lovely friend Kristen, and we are about to go church surfing at the RA rooms! I am definately having an amazing time, thanks to everyone who has been praying for me!

The first football game is in a couple weeks, which I am extremely excited about. I definately caught myself doing the Wildcat sign in a picture today, which made me feel like a real college student!

GO WILDCATS!

Genesis 1

August 27, 2008

Today is my Astronomy class we talked about the age of the universe. I am so used to being taught the Big Bang theory in science class, that I figured the Bible would not even be mentioned. To my surprise, we studied Genesis 1 the entire class. We talked about whether or not God created the world in seven literal days, or if each day was actually a long period of time.

Our professor explained that when the BIble was written, ‘day’ had three different meanings:
        – 12 Hours   (Genesis 1:5)
        - 24 Hours   (Genesis 1:8)
        – An Era       (Genesis 1:11-12)

He ended up giving us textual evidence in Genesis that explains each different theory. He put it on us to decide which Bible verse we thought explained the meaning of a day. Seven literal days, in my opinion! It was so interesting to see how science and the Bible have so many differences, but can all come together to make perfect sense.

My roommate and I definately just sang the whole entire song that was playing on Hannah Montana…I’m pretty sure we are the only people here that can do that!
